Recycling Depot

The smart, modern recycling depot near County Oak Retail Park is run as a public subsidy-private profit operation, with the subsidy paid by West Sussex County Council and the profit going to the owners of Viridor.

The amenity tip burnt down in June 2008. It was rebuilt, and opened again in April 2009.

Opening Hours

1 April to 30 September:

  • Monday to Friday: 8.00 to 19.00
  • Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays: 9.00 to 19.00

1 October to 31 March:

  • Monday to Friday: 8.00 to 17.00
  • Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays: 9.00 to 17.00
  • Christmas Day and Boxing Day: closed

Weekly Rubbish Collection

The weekly domestic rubbish collection is organised by Crawley Borough Council, and is scheduled on the following days:

  • Furnace Green: Wednesday
  • Gossops Green: Tuesday
  • Ifield: Tuesday
  • Ifield Green: Tuesday

  • Pound Hill (north): Monday or Tuesday
  • Pound Hill (south): Friday

Garden waste and other material for recycling are collected every 2 weeks, usually on the same day of the week as the normal rubbish collection. For details of what may be recycled, and the precise schedules, see the council’s website.

Local Recycling Points

Each neighbourhood has its own recycling point, usually near a shopping parade. Except where mentioned, all take glass, paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and textiles:

Bewbush also contains the Bewbush Scrap Store, which recycles clean items for children’s play groups and similar organisations.

Cotton Nappies

West Sussex County Council is doing its bit for the environment by offering a payment of £30 for parents whose infants use cotton rather than disposable nappies. Phone 01243 642106 for details.
